bsnl usage can be checked through their portal. it is different for each region. For south, the usage checking site is http://selfcare.sdc.bsnl.co.in/ . I think for north, west and east , the url is similar, just change sdc to ndc, wdc or edc according to the region. You need to register in this site and then you can know how much bandwidth you have used. Also you can know how much free calls balance you have and also the numbers where you have dialed.
once you register in the above site, you can use the tool available at http://shaplus.com/dataone/ to check usage in an automated way. this tool will show your usage graphically.

you can install any internet meter/bandwidth meter which do a cumulative total of your usage for the day/week/month
i used crystal for nearly 3 years.till i came onto vista . now i dont use any ..
